CBS news featured an interesting story on their popular TV news show, “60 Minutes” this past week.
For CBS news and 60 Minutes, Dr. Sanjay Gupta interviewed top scientists from across the U.S. In this video, they clearly linked eating sugar to diseases such as stroke, heart attack, type II diabetes, hypertension and obesity.
It’s interesting that one scientist in particular was surprised by how fast sugar causes the liver to produce LDL particles that accelerate atherosclerosis.
So is sugar toxic? In the video, you’ll also see how eating sugar can aid cancer in destroying you, by stimulating surplus insulin secretion. the insulin helps cancer cells to grow, so this is why keeping your glucose and insulin blood levels low is important.
Watch the video and you’ll see why sugar is toxic. In fact, even if you cut out sugar, you will probably still produce a lot of glucose from eating other foods that don’t even contain sugar.
This is why I cut sugar from my diet years ago. I used to live on cakes, cookies and candy and my health eventually fell aprt. It wasn’t until I got rid of the sugar creeps that I came back.
Now this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to go the rest of your life without eating anything that is sweet. Fruits can be fantastic substitutes sugary snacks, and combining fruits together can make great combinations that rival your favorite sweets. Try frozen blueberries and coconut flakes together! other frozen fruits such as cherries, bananas and raspberries can give you the vibe of ice cream. Low sugar granola mixed together with fruit is a fantastic treat. And you can find low sugar granola in supermarkets or on Amazon, with many different flavors to choose from.
Another tip is eating nuts instead of cookies. To me, pecans taste exactly like cookies! A word of warning though…Be careful with pistachios and peanuts. They are not recommended because they can be infested with mycotoxins. Instead, opt for walnuts and macadamia nuts as better, safer healthy choices.
